Welcome to Faire Chaolais….
….. our holiday home with views across the Silver Sands of Morar to the Isle of Rum
Faire Chaolais is pronounced 'Fara Chulish' to rhyme with Ballachulish and means
‘View of the Sound’ and is a newly built eco-
Award winning architects Dualchas designed the house, adapting the concept of the traditional Highland agricultural building for modern living and turning it towards the views of the 'Silver Sands' and Isle of Rum through the whole gable end. Faire Chaolais sits on former croft land, with passing ‘Harry Potter’ steam trains on the beautiful West Highland railway line above the house. Indeed it is possible to arrive by train and hire a car from the local garage.
The house is within walking distance of the beach on both sides of the river Morar (tidal on the north side) and we often see deer from the living room.
The house is built to minimise heat loss and has a heat recovery ventilation unit and underfloor heating using renewable energy from an air source heat pump; with a wood burning stove in the living area it is warm and cosy throughout the year.
Faire Chaolais was featured in the November 2015 edition of “Homes and Interiors Scotland”. They wrote: “This is a place to come and clear your head, where less is more. And then you can go back to your usual life refreshed.” We are also featured on the website Cool Cottages Scotland.
